In this article, we’ll show you how to keep politics off your Bluesky feed using both manual and third-party methods.

Removing Politics on Bluesky with BluePilot

BluePilot’s latest feature allows you to add negative keywords. Rather than spending hours of your time creating a custom feed, adding negative keywords to what we call the Smart Queue and Smart Unfollows system will make an immediate improvement and help clean your current following.

The negative keywords influence the Smart Queue, which is a feature that recommends who to follow, by avoiding said negative keywords. Ultimately, it targets more relevant accounts that you actually want to hear from. Smart Unfollows is influenced by the negative keywords via a cleaning process so to speak. As you add negative keywords into these settings the system will tag accounts that are talking about those topics you don’t want to see and recommend you unfollow them. The process is simple with our filtering system and single button click to unfollow all of them!

Whenever you catch political content on your feed, add some of the keywords within to your negative keyword list. This will gradually clean your feed until political content no longer appears.

Taking Politics Off Your Bluesky Feed Manually

To get politics off your Bluesky feed manually, you’ll either need to:

• Find or create a custom feed.
• Manually analyze every account you follow and remove them.
• Signal to Bluesky’s algorithm by manually finding, reporting, and/or blocking accounts which post political content.

Custom feeds contain positive and negative keywords that filter the content shown on it automatically. Unfortunately, the amount of custom feeds available that completely remove political content is limited. One example is “No Politics China", a custom feed which includes content about China while excluding the politics. However, there are no major custom feeds solely designed to exclude politics completely. You may find other user-made custom feeds which remove politics, but they are subject to user error. The other downside to the feeds is that they are very easy to ‘game’ so to speak. So via the use of certain hashtags or accounts that are added to said feeds you can end up with bad content again…

Creating Your Own Custom Feed to Remove Politics

Another route is creating your own custom feed which excludes political keywords. Bluesky has provided their own tutorial on how to create a custom feed from scratch.
